About Me

On the Rocks

I have compiled some questions that are always on one’s mind when perusing a blog such as this.  I have included my responses below in order to help you, the reader, understand more about me and my background.

1. Why is your blog entitled “Barefoot in the Forest”? I don’t get it.  Are you a homeless, vagabond or something? No, I have a home, and it happens to be in a rural, forested area. The title is a play on the old saying “Barefoot and in the kitchen”, which I have always found amusing. Also I am a big fan of minimal footwear and do indeed try to go barefoot as much as possible.

2. Where do you live? I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California at just over 3,000 feet in elevation.

3.Why do you live in California? Isn’t it full of scarey socialists who want to force everyone to be equal and take away their rights and, eventually, take over the whole country? I was born and raised in Northern Ca and do not find the people here scarey or nutty at all. As a matter of fact, they are quite concerned with rights of the individual for the most part. Also just about everyone you meet here knows what a “GMO” is and can direct you to the nearest gluten free restaurant. There are many options for health conscious people and gluten free folks. I live in a very small town. We have about 3 or 4 restaurants to our name and two of them offer gluten free options, including a delicious gluten free pizza. Also, the weather here is superb!

4. What sort of training do you have? How are you qualified to write such a blog? I learned to write in grammar school. I also had excellent English teachers in eighth and ninth grade, who helped learn me proper grammar (Including a teacher who used to throw plastic fruit at the wall when you gave an incorrect answer in class). I have a psychology degree from The University of California, Santa Cruz, so if you comment, I can analyze it and give you a proper diagnosis.

5. Everyone is well aware that Sasquatch lurks in the Sierras! So, have you spotted him?  No, sadly, but I had an experience when camping up in Washington State in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. It was in the middle of the night and everyone was asleep. I was awakened to a terrifying, piercing cry that sounded as if it came from a man-beast. I was totally paralyzed with fear in my tent. It had human like speaking qualities, but was too animal like and large sounding to come from a man.  There was another call exactly the same that came from a distance away; I assume from across the lake next to which we were camping.  The two creatures called back and forth to each other like this getting closer and closer to our camp.  Then suddenly all the noise stopped. I didn’t know about the fact that there were so many sightings in that forest or really anything about Sasquatch at the time, but I will always wonder if that is what I heard.

6. How old are you?  I am in my thirties, not that it is anyone’s business!

7. What is your favorite breed of chicken?  I have raised chickens for like 10 years and really love many breeds, but I will have to say that the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are the most beautiful. I really like the blue eggs of the true Ameraucanas and also love the temperament of the Orpingtons. I raise Blue Orpingtons and the roos are never aggressive towards people.
